cognitive studies of translation process have recently been awarded a great deal of attention. there exists a psychological angle to almost all translation activities. the present study, thus, deals with analysing the relationships between iranian prospective translators tolerance for ambiguity (ta) and their willingness to translate (wtt). the research was conducted as a mixed methods study, dealing with the qualitative phase as the initial step and moderating focus-group interviews to prepare a rich poll of ambiguity tolerance related items. the following step dealt with revalidating a culturally adapted ambiguity tolerance questionnaire by employing exploratory factor analysis and structural equation modelling. a willingness to translate questionnaire was administered to the participants. pearson-product moment correlation was used to check if there is a direct and significant relationship between translators tolerance for ambiguity and their willingness to translate. the results indicated that, there is a significant and positive correlation between the two variables. age and gender differences were also examined in relation to at and wtt. the statistics did not show a significant difference in at levels of female and male respondents, while females proved to have higher levels of wtt, comparing to men. no significant correlation was indicated between participants wtt and their age, while older participants represented lower at level.
